Called to follow; sure to be misunderstood Mark 3 v 7 – 35 Steve Petch 7 th February 2016

“Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men” (Mark 1v17 ) A Christian who is not actively engaged in the process of fishing for people has forgotten what Jesus called them to be and to do!

1.Christians are called to ‘fish for people’ 2.We can learn to do this by following Jesus more closely 3.Jesus can suddenly and powerfully impact people’s lives today Three things to believe:

Have you ever shared your faith and had people get angry with you?

“A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you” (John 15 v 20 ) Witnessing for Jesus in an insensitive or tactless way doesn’t represent Jesus well and could lead to trouble Facing opposition for our faith or witness does not necessarily mean we’ve done it badly

“I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be as wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10 v 16 ) Witnessing for Jesus in an insensitive or tactless way doesn’t represent Jesus well and could lead to trouble Facing opposition for our faith or witness does not necessarily mean we’ve done it badly

Jesus is not a neutral name!

“A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you” (John 15 v 20 )

… by the crowds... by the Apostles... by his family... by religious people Jesus was misunderstood …

Witnessing for Jesus in an insensitive or tactless way doesn’t represent Jesus well and could lead to trouble Facing opposition for our faith or witness does not necessarily mean we’ve done it badly

In situations of challenge and opposition, where can we go for encouragement and strength? Go to the one who is not ashamed to call us his brothers and sisters – Mark 3v31-35
