3 The Basic Rules: Adverbs Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. The most common question that adverbs answer is how? Calvin and Hobbes run as fast as they can Calvin and Hobbes dance well The singer sings beautifully Calvin screams loudly and angrily. He holds on as hard as he can.
