2 ACT 1 SCENE 1 Sets the scene. Begins at the end and flashes back to the beginning. Provides foreshadowing. “As Mr. Frank reads on, another voice joins his, as if coming form the air. It was Anne’s voice.” (Goodrich & Hackett 703).

3 ACT 1 SCENE 2 Highlights the rules and regulations of being in hiding. “From eight in the morning until six in the evening we must move when it is necessary.” (Goodrich & Hackett 707)

4 ACT 1 SCENE 3 Showcases everyone’s reactions to being locked in the annex. Mr. VanDaan: I feel… there’s so little food as it is… and to take in another person…” (Goodrich & Hackett 724)

5 ACT 1 SCENE 4 Even Anne, who’s normally boisterous, is deeply affected by the fear of being found. “ No! No! Don’t… don’t take me!” (Goodrich & Hackett 897)

6 ACT 1 SCENE 5 Even Jews who are not practicing and don’t consider themselves religious (Dussell) are being persecuted. “No! Not like St. Nicholas! What kind of a Jew are you that you don’t know Hanukkah?” (Goodrich & Hackett p901) Someone knows they are in the annex. “I think some day he’ll be caught and then he’ll make a bargain with the Green Police… if they’ll let him off, he’ll tell them where some Jews are hiding!” (Goodrich & Hackett 911)

7 ACT 2 SCENE 1 Someone else may know about their hiding spot. “He was standing staring at the bookcase… your bookcase. He said he thought he remembered a door there…” (Goodrich & Hackett 926)

8 ACT 2 SCENE 2 Anne and Peter develop a closeness “I’m jealous… jealous that you’ve got something to get up in the morning for” (Goodrich & Hackett 935).

9 ACT 2 SCENE 3 Roller coaster: Mr. Van Daan is caught stealing food which causes Mrs. Frank to snap. Miep brings news of the invasion. Anne reveals the invasion is not going well. “Even poor Pim can’t raise their spirits” (Goodrich & Hackett 949)
