2  Dates back to about 12,000 BC to about 300 BC.  The name derived from the “chord markings” that characterize the ceramics made during this time.  The Jomon people were semi-sedentary, living in pit dwellings.  They obtained their food by gathering, hunting, and fishing. OVERVIEW
