3 NOUNS REVIEW NOUNS - name a person, place or thing SINGULAR NOUNS - name only one (tree) PLURAL NOUNS - name more than one Add s (dogs) Add -es if nouns end in: s, x, ch, sh (bushes) Add -ies if nouns end in consonant + y (fly = flies) Add -ves if nouns end in f or fe (leaf = leaves) IRREGULAR PLURAL NOUNS - change their spelling completely! (man = men)

4 Possessive Nouns Show ownership or possession There are 2 ways to make a noun show ownership ‘s or ‘  Singular nouns = ‘s  Plural nouns ending in s = ‘  Irregular plural nouns = ‘s

5 The dog's collar is too large. The word "dog's" is the possessive noun. Dog is a singular noun. It tells you that the collar belongs to the dog. The dog owns, or possesses the collar. Add 's to the end of a singular noun to make it possessive.

6 The spiders’ webs look like lace. Spiders’ is the possessive noun. Spiders is plural. The sentence refers to both spiders owning webs. Add ‘ to a plural noun that ends in ‘s’ to show ownership.

7 We saw the children's snowman. Children’s is the possessive noun. Children is an irregular plural noun. It shows that all of the children own the snowman. Add ‘s to irregular plurals to show possession.

10 The insect’s body has three parts. Insect is singular, so add ‘s to show it owns the body.

11 The cars of the people are moving slowly. ANSWER

12 The people’s cars are moving slowly. People is an irregular plural noun. Add ‘s to show they own the cars.

13 The middle of the cake is gooey! ANSWER

14 The cake’s middle is gooey! Cake is singular so add ‘s to show the cake owns it’s middle.

15 The hats of the clowns were colorful. ANSWER

16 The clowns’ hats were colorful. Clowns is plural ending in an ‘s’. So add ‘ to show they own their hats.

17 The desk of the teacher is messy! ANSWER

18 The teacher’s desk is messy! Teacher is singular so add ‘s to show she owns her messy desk.

19 Amy report card was wonderful. ANSWER

20 Amy’s report card was wonderful. Amy is singular, so add ‘s to show she owns the report card.

21 The babies nursery had five beds. ANSWER

22 The babies’ nursery had five beds. Babies is plural ending with ‘s’ so add ‘ to show they own the nursery.

23 The girls outfits were exactly the same. ANSWER

24 The girls’ outfits were exactly the same. Girls is plural ending with ‘s’ so add ‘ to show they own their outfits.

25 We were proud of Chris performance. ANSWER

26 We were proud of Chris’ performance. Chris is singular, BUT it ends with an ‘s’. In this case, we add ‘ to show it was his performance.
