3 Introduction Chapter six focuses on the use matrix of the SUT Defines the format of the SUT in accordance with the SNA – Rows represent products classified by CPC – Columns represents industries classified by ISIC – Sectors also follow the SNA classifications – Accounting framework is also adhered to

4 How practical is this chapter It is easy to read and understand Provides a clear summarised structure of Use table as prescribed in the SNA Definitions and concepts adhered to SNA Classifications: – rows represent products classified by CPC(Lesotho CPA is used) – Columns represent Industries classified by ISIC

5 How practical is this chapter- continued The challenge is – classifying product using CPC- In Lesotho CPA – type of classification where codes follow the structure of ISIC-codes is more practical – Migration to the ISIC Rev. 4 requires more resources

6 How applicable is the chapter to African Countries Not so applicable in most NSOs – Inadequacy of financial resources required to undertake timely Census and large Surveys – Need high Skilled staff to design complex censuses and surveys – TA required to assist validate administrative sources – Good advocacy strategies to persuade household and enterprises to provided detailed data – NSOs to reinforce their National accounts Staff

7 How applicable is the chapter to African Countries- cont. Design of National Strategies for Development of Statistics (NSDS) Coordination of NSS by NSO – Capacitate other statistics generating agencies to produce sectoral statistics – Update Statistical Acts

8 Summary SUTs can be compiled if : – NSOs are semi or fully autonomous – Internal and international capacity building to NA staff – Implement NSDS – Coordination of NSS
