3 Farmer ’ s Earnings In 1932, farmers made half of what they were making 2 years before They could not pay their loans When they couldn’t pay off their loans, the banks took their property. In 1932, the mid-western states were hit by drought. Bad farming practices and 18 months of little rain had dried out the soil.

7 Where Did All the Homeless Go? Once homes were lost people had to live in homes made of cardboard, scrap lumber tin tar paper

8 These “ homes ” were called Hoovervilles

9 Hoovervilles- Shantytowns, whole villages of shacks which were called Hoovervilles because many people blamed President Hoover for their troubles.
