Works of Mercy Chapter 16 Lesson 1
2
Man is created in the image of God. He has dignity. Man is created as a body and soul unity. Our body is our physical being. Through the body we enjoy the senses. Man has a rational soul, which will live forever. Man is a spiritual being because of his soul. This is how he is in God’s image. Because of his rational soul, man can learn, love, communicate, and make decisions. Both our body and soul need special care.

Works of Mercy The spiritual works are more important because it is through the spiritual that we know and love God. We must have grace in order for our good works to be meritorious. Without grace, good acts are merely humanitarian. With grace, they are works of charity and gain us treasure in heaven. We should always do these acts with love as their motivating force.
