1 DO NOW: WHAT DO YOU THINK LIFE WAS LIKE FOR GOD’S PEOPLE WHEN THEY WERE EXILED TO BABYLON? Chapter 17 ~ lesson 2

2 Concept: How were God’s people in exile given hope? Isaiah promised that God would save them. **While in exile, the exiles first identified their faith as Judaism.

3 Chapter 17 ~ lesson 2  Hope enables us to trust in God’s promise to be with us always.  Isaiah called the people to be faithful to God and have hope.  Isaiah said salvation would come only through the suffering of a servant of the Lord.  As Christians we believe that God showed us his great love by sending his only Son to save us.  Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy because he was without sin, he suffered for us, and gave us hope.  The exiled Jews grew in faith and hope and in understanding their relationship with God.

4 Chapter 17 ~ lesson 2 Questions: 1. What gave the exiles hope? 2. How did Isaiah describe the servant who would bring salvation? 3. How did Jesus fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy?
