Current FIS is ◦not user friendly ◦limited, manual integration with Banner ◦not embraced by all deans, who rely on their own forms to collect relevant information Leads to ◦difficulty gathering reliable data about faculty productivity ◦duplication of requests for information FIS Possible Replacement

Goals: ◦Ask faculty members for any piece of information once and only once, ever. Need systems that are more robust, user friendly, and integrated ◦Pull in data from: Campus systems (Cayuse/Banner) External sources (journal databases, reference managers) ◦Push out data in usable formats that will save faculty time: CVs, NSF/NIH biosketches, annual reports websites Rice Institutional Repository

Project partners: ◦VPAA, Office of Research, IT, possibly Library Campus data integration & management efforts FIS Possible Replacement

Steps Taken: Focus group of ~20; 30% faculty Interviewed all Rice school deans Viewed web demos of 7 products Invited 3 to do on-campus presentations Narrowed down to 2 finalists: Converis and Faculty180 Summary report/proposal being prepared Will wait till January for new CIO Klara Jelinkova’s input
