Pen board

Interactive computer board

Organising items

IMPORTANT! WHENEVER POSSIBLE, FIND OPPORTUNITIES TO WRITE THINGS UP ON THE BOARD WHILE STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON OTHER THINGS, SO THAT YOU ARE READY WHEN THEY FINISH.

8.BOARD DRAWING Quick explanations of vocabulary items Setting up a discussion Dialogue Role-play Story-building

9.ELICITING  Explain information  Language  Ideas FROM STUDENTS

THERE ARE 3 STEPS TO ELICITING 1.Convey a clear idea to the Students. 2.They then supply the appropriate language. 3.Give them feedback.

TEACHER CAN ELICIT: Language, ideas, feelings, meanings, contexts, memories, etc. TEACHER CAN`T ELICIT: Things they don`t know.

10.STUDENTS USING THEIR OWN LANGUAGE √“THEY ALWAYS TALK IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE.I CAN`T GET THEM TO USE ENGLISH”. This is a common problem in monolingual classes, especially with children and young adults.

USING ENGLISH IN CLASS COMPETITION AND BRIBERY =GET RESULTS DO THIS TO PLEASE THE TEACHER

SOME IDEAS TO USE ENGLISH IN THE CLASSROOM Listening material English-language posters Negotiate the rules with them Respond positively to every effort at using English Only “hear” English Spend more time on fluency work rather than correction Communication is your priority, rather than accuracy

11. INTUITION √It is fundamental to teaching √Skill of spontaneously understanding something √Taking risks √Trying things out √Learning not to be frightened √Realise the way to move forward √Recalling and reflecting

12.HOW TO PREVENT LEARNING-SOME POPULAR TECHNIQUES TTT (teacher talking time) Echo Helpful sentence completion Complicated and unclear instructions Not checking understanding of instructions Asking “do you understand”? Fear of genuine feedback Insufficient authority/over-politeness The running commentary Lack of confidence in self,learners,material,activity/making it too easy Over-helping/over-organising Flying with the fastest

“YOU LEARN TO TEACH BY TEACHING…YOU LEARN TO TEACH BY DOING IT.”
