3  Governor Smith tried to dissuade the council  The council caused him to not be governor anymore  Lieutenant James Robinson was now the head of state but left for home  Texas had no governor during Feb. 1836 Lieutenant James Robinson

4  Santa Anna and his large army march into Texas  59 delegates began arriving at Washington-on-the- Brazos  The Convention was the fourth of its kind Santa Anna

5  1832-1833- appealed to the Mexican government  1835- sought support from other Mexican states  Delegates were determined to split from Mexico at the fourth meeting  All delegates came from all over the world including northern and southern US, England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, etc.

6  George Childress was named chairmen and was declaration’s sole author  March 2- Texas Declaration of Independence presented and became Texas Independence Day  After the declaration, the convention wanted to write a constitution for new republic

7  March 16: The constitution was completed and approved  The delegates formed an ad-intern government  Sam Houston was elected as the commander-in- chief of Texas military Sam Houston
