What is a Family? By Lauren Rausenberger and Joan Burmester

Have you ever thought about who the people are in your family?

You may think that the only people in your family are your mother, father, sisters, and brothers. You would call these people your immediate family. But they are not the only people in your family.

Guess what?! Your family has more people than that! Did you know that your aunts, uncles, and cousins are also part of your family?

We call these people our extended family. They are the people who are related to us but do not necessarily live in the same house as us. Can you think of anyone else in your extended family?

Did you think about your grandma and grandpa? Yes, they are also a part of your extended family. They are your mom and dad’s parents.

Families are made up of a lot of different people! They are people who love each other. Take some time to think about all of the people in your family.
