2 The Basic Facts (Project-specific) Three year duration Managed by ISETT SETA - the Executing Agency Funded by the NSF

3 The Basic Facts (Project-specific) Transforming four qualifications to learnerships –Networking –PDE (Post-graduate Diploma in Engineering) –MES (Masters in Engineering Science) –MSE (Masters in Software Engineering) Entry level: –B.Sc. graduates, majoring in Maths & Science –Unemployed graduates from previously disadvantaged universities

4 Issues Why at ISSA? –ISSA specifically addresses the historically disadvantaged community (all learners are black, 50% are women) Why not in Gauteng where the bulk of the industry is? –The project originated at ISSA –Learnerships are national, ISSA is the vehicle

5 Issues Why the satellite component - who will employ these graduates? –Specific Outcome: To achieve at least an 80% satisfaction rating from the establishments in which learners are placed –Tri-partite agreement Why Networking (vendor-specific)?

7 The Value of this Project Specific Outcome: To gain the interest of at least two other universities in South Africa to adopt these learnerships –University of Stellenbosch –Monash University –University of Natal –University of Pretoria –University of Cape Town

8 The Value of this Project Specific Outcome: To strive for 10% of graduates entering into the R&D/SMME environment Familiarisation with the SAQA learnership development process Generation of Unit Standards
