3. A Sergeant Slips Tip for Building Friendships People have a right to be called by their proper name and to establish their own identity. If you want to call a friend or someone a nickname you should check if they like it or not first. If you have already called them that name and they don’t like it then stop and apologize.

4. Do you think it’s ever ok to call someone a really bad or offensive name?

5. NO, I don’t think it’s ever ok. If someone has hurt you and you’d like to call them a bad name why not talk to your teacher instead. Calling them a bad name will only end up hurting you.

6. If someone calls you a name once and you don’t like it what should you do?

7. If it’s only once tell them you don’t like it. Then try to let it go.

8. If it really upsets you talk to yourself and tell yourself that you are ok. Remind yourself of who you are and even what you are good at. Encourage yourself!

9. It might help to talk to a friend or teacher too.

10. What if they keep on calling you that name? Do you just let it go then?

11. If someone keeps calling you a name after you have asked them to stop then that is bullying! And bullying is never ok! You don’t have to put up with it. Speak up and tell a caring adult like your teacher, your parents, your school chaplain or your principal. Don’t stop speaking up until the bullying stops!
