1 April 1, 2013 Welcome back from Spring Break: Warm up: best and wished it had gone differently... I Never Saw Another Butterfly S.1; DOK: 2-3; Learning Target: I can interpret the Holocaust through poetry written by children in the camps.

2 Butterfly Project 1. Today we will explore the children of Terezinstadt Ghetto in Terezin, Czechoslovokia. You will create a butterfly to represent the young author of the poem you choose. You will write the poem, title and author on the butterfly. We will hang them in the room. We will reveal the fate of your young author and either cut them down or allow them to remain to remind us of the loss of life during this time. ✤ S.1; DOK: 2-3; Learning Target: I can interpret the Holocaust through poetry written by children in the camps.

3 Exit ✤ Write a letter to your butterfly child. Tell them in your letter addressed to them what you have learned so far about the Holocaust, an expression of your feelings about their plight (not knowing right now if they make it or not), and how you plan to make a difference when you witness intolerance and injustice as they experienced. S.1; DOK: 2-3; Learning Target: I can interpret the Holocaust through poetry written by children in the camps.
