4 4 What is a Smart Meter? Meter that adds timing to usage information –Interval or Time-of-Use Communication network for data –Automatic Meter Reading Feedback to consumer and delivery system –Settlement, Daily, Real-Time, Display Control –Set-back, cycling, limiting, curtailment

6 6 Minister’s Directive Plan to meet the targets -800,000 by 2007 -All customers by 2010

7 7 Minister’s Directive Implementation plan provided for Minister’s approval by Feb 15 Address: –Competitiveness in provision and support –Installation priorities Over 50 kW New homes –Cost recovery Distributor operational savings

8 8 Directive Technical Requirements Meters –Measure and indicate prescribed periods –Adaptable to foreseeable rates without removal of meter Reading –Must be capable of remote meter reading –Would like multiple meters Data storage –Must be compatible for billing and reporting Data provision –Must be capable of daily consumer feedback –Would like Real Time feedback and access to 3 rd party –Bi-direction communication unless reason not
