2 Course Description  Hospitality Industry Financial Accounting will provide the basic knowledge of financial accounting systems in a hospitality environment

3 Course Objectives  A basic understanding of accounting principles  An understanding of the development of financial accounting systems  An understanding of the preparation of accounting transactions, adjusting entries, the balance sheet, the income statement, and accounting ledgers

4 Course Objectives  An understanding of the various forms of business organizations and basic accounting for each  Understanding the concepts of cash accounting, receivables and payables accounting, inventory accounting, FF&E accounting and payroll accounting  Practice group analysis and presentation skills

5 Topics to be Covered  Part I  Introduction to Accounting  Accounting for Business Transactions –Accounting Principles  Accounting Adjustments  Completing the Accounting Cycle  Subsidiary Ledgers and Special Journals

6 Topics to be Covered  Part II  The Income Statement  The Balance Sheet  Financial Statement Analysis and Interpretation

7 Topics to be Covered  Part III  Cash and Internal Controls  Receivables and Payables  Inventories & Cost Calculations  Current Liabilities and Payroll  Property Plant and Other Assets –(Depreciation)  Additional Topics as Time Allows

8 Grading Criteria  Exam 1 12.5%  Exam 2 12.5%  Exam 3 12.5%  Final Exam 12.5%  Presentations 12.5%  Group Paper 12.5%  Quizzes 12.5%  Attendance 12.5%

9 Grading Criteria  A 90% to 100%  B 80% to 89%  C 70% to 79 %  D 60% to 69%  F 0% to 59% The plus / minus system is not is use Grades will be given out in person only.

10 Expectations  Completion of homework assignments on time  Participation  Attendance will be taken for each class  Bring a calculator. No cell phones.  Group project / presentation  Assignment schedule “subject to change”

12 Important Policies  Attendance Counts – You must be present to win  Make up Policy for Quizzes & Exams –Quizzes – No make up. Lowest quiz grade dropped –Exams – No make up. The grade for a missed exam will be 50% of the final exam grade.

13 Group Presentations  Attendance is mandatory for all presentations  All members of the group must participate in the presentation  Group size is to be limited to 2 participants
