Lettuce By: Molly, Molly, and Thien

Lettuce Information Lettuce comes in various types. Lettuce comes in various types. The lettuce that we see today, actually originated from a weed near the Mediterranean basin. The lettuce that we see today, actually originated from a weed near the Mediterranean basin. Lettuce was introduced to the new world from Christopher Columbus, and became very popular. Latuca sativa Latuca sativa (Lettuce) (Lettuce)

Growth Our experiment was tested over a process of 5 weeks. The purpose of this experiment was to see if plastic or cloth would have the greater effect on the plant growth. Our plant that had the most successful growth production covered by cloth had a length of; 5cm. The plant that had the most successful growth production covered by plastic had a length of; 4cm. The plant with the least successful growth died for both experiments.

Problem and Hypothesis Problem- The problem was to see if there was difference in growth when plants were covered by cloth or plastic. Hypothesis- If the plants are covered in plastic, then they will grow more successfully than being covered in cloth.

Lettuce Graph of longest leaf in cm

Analysis & Conclusion Analysis The average overall growth for the lettuce covered in plastic is 2.60cm. The average overall growth for the lettuce covered in cloth is 3.10cm. The lettuce covered in cloth had a higher growth rate than the lettuce growing covered by plastic. Conclusion Our hypothesis was proven incorrect because we predicted that the lettuce covered in plastic would grow faster but the lettuce covered in cloth grew faster.

Ideas for Future Experimentation Use different materials for the covering of the plants Use different materials for the covering of the plants Use more of the same plants Use more of the same plants Use different soil Use different soil Record data differently Record data differently Do experiment for a longer amount of time Do experiment for a longer amount of time Water with purified water Water with purified water

Personal Reflection In the beginning of our experiment, we were very excited knowing that we were going to grow plants. Our group consisted of the following people, Molly B. (Biscuit), Molly H. (Hildebrand), and Thien (Socko), We were called the Veggie Tales and our plant was Lettuce. For the first week we were planting our vegetables and we measured our infant plants. Most measurements were very good, the growth rate was increasing gradually. One plant had a measurement of 4cm. In the 2 nd week nothing had happened to our plants. Only one vegetable grew enough to record. There were 5 plants that grew to 4cm or higher throughout of our experiment. As a group we decided that our experiment was very successful.
