3 What is Educational Podcasting? Social – ideas, questions and knowledge shared Digital media – usually audio, increasingly video, PDFs Accessible - Internet distributed, downloadable media Flexible (time and location neutral) – hence 'time shifting', 'space shifting', mobile, flexible learning Device neutral - media players, both software and hardware ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Optional characteristics Automatically delivered - Simple syndication technology (RSS + media enclosures) that allows interested parties to subscribe to published content ('feeds') from a particular supplier Managed by the user - aggregation software designed to gather feeds

4 A broad definition Educational podcasting is: The development of shared knowledge through distributed, digital media, accessible to its community through flexible interfaces

5 Aim Write a book together in 1 hour by generating 100 ideas for educational podcasting Book? Scenarios, case studies, short essays Target – UK tertiary education All contributions will be acknowledged Publisher/publication method to be identified Why? – push the boundaries, develop and share emerging good practice

6 How Everybody here will come up with 3+ ideas Activity 1 – what we know about already Activity 2 - a creativity exercise Activity 3 – take another look (Activity 4 – feedback, listen, construct) Use the supplied form Write clearly please! Don't be precious at all!!!! Generate! - refine and sign off ideas by email later Note:– The idea of recording lectures is already taken

7 Activity 1 – just 3 minutes Work alone Use the form to describe something you or a colleague is already doing or an idea that has already started to form for you. Each person needs to produce at least 1 idea each in this activity More ideas are better Come up with wacky but descriptive Titles Don't worry about spelling, etc! Just get the ideas down on the form

8 Activity 1b – 5 minutes each Cryptically, start to tell the person next to you about 1 or more of your ideas Listen and try to guess the idea Make a note of what you thought they were going to say Develop this new idea together

9 Activity 2 Pick 2 from the following list Serial Perspective Tutor's voice Optional Emotion Public Transient Angry Student's voice Share Repetition Irregular Mobile Collaborate Formal Informal Next year Expert Habit Authentic Current Authority Timely Subject Anxiety Access Place Immediate Trust Form Store... develop an idea based upon these words
