National Curriculum Review ‘Review of the National Curriculum, with the aim of reducing prescription and allowing schools to decide how to teach, while refocusing on core subjects’. ‘E’ Consultation ‘Call for Evidence’ started 20/1/2011 ends 14/4/2011. Review in two phases: English, Maths, Science and PE first, with a view to schools receiving new curriculum by September 2012 and implementation from September 2013; Second phase of remaining subjects reviewed and with schools by September 2013, implementation from September 2014.

Wolfe Review of 14-19 and Vocational Education Wolfe Report Published Thursday 3 March: Proposals include: Allowing 14 to 16 year olds to be enrolled in colleges so they can benefit from high-quality vocational training. Ensuring anyone who fails to achieve at least a ‘C’ in GCSE English or maths must continue to study those subjects post-16. Removing the current incentives, created by the funding system and performance tables, to enter students for low-quality qualifications. Michael Gove has already agreed: To allow qualified further education lecturers to teach in school classrooms on the same basis as qualified school teachers. To clarify the rules on allowing industry professionals to teach in schools. To allow any vocational qualification offered by a regulated awarding body to be taken by 14 to 19 year olds. To allow established high-quality vocational qualifications that have not been accredited to be offered in schools and colleges in September 2011. Full report can be downloaded from DfE website. Secretary of State will provide written response in due course and then consultation will begin.
