Why the difference? Android focused on smartphones until the relatively recent past Many more apps for iPads than for Android tablets (as opposed to smartphones) Until the latest releases, Android had a version for phones and a version for tablets. Developers concentrated on phones.
11
Looking Forward Latest version of Android unifies tablets and smartphones Increasing number of apps in the Android marketplace (although mostly still smartphone apps) Many, many new devices coming to the market in 2012 Pricing is trending lower than iPads

Android Considerations Not proprietary, many different versions and form factors possible (smaller to larger) “Fragmented” marketplace, with multiple versions of Android ▫4.x Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean 16.7% ▫3.x Honeycomb 2.3% ▫2.3.x Gingerbread 60.6% ▫2.2 Froyo 15.5% ▫Older 4.9%
13
Android Considerations Different manufacturers usually put their own user interface over Android, so two tablets may have the same technical specs and same version of Android, but look and function differently App Marketplace is not vetted – this is either a good news/bad news situation
