Isaiah 6:1-4 - “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!’ 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke…

5 “So I said: ‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.’"

The Literal Presence of Jehovah

Holiness – Synonymous with God “For holy is the Lord our God” (Ps. 99:9) “Holy, Holy, Holy” (Isa. 6:3; Rev. 4:8)

The Holiness of God It is what sets God apart!

The Holiness of God What is the Holiness of God? How does it affect me?

Holiness means Separateness God is Unique

“Who is like Thee among the gods, O Lord? Who is like Thee, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?" -Exo. 15:11

"'To whom then will you liken Me that I should be his equal?' says the Holy One" -Isa. 40:25 "You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth." -Ex. 20:3-4

God is physically unapproachable God is Absolute Deity

Effect of God’s Holiness on Us Are we humbled? Our attitude in worship. Our attitude in prayer. Our daily walk in His presence.

God’s Wrath His settled opposition to sin.His settled opposition to sin. His divine revulsion to evil. His divine revulsion to evil. The only possible response from a Holy, Holy, Holy God!The only possible response from a Holy, Holy, Holy God!

Num. 20:12 - "Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

Sin’s Effect Sin separates from God (Isa. 59:1) Sin brings God’s wrath (Rom. 1:18) God is a “consuming fire” (Heb. 12:29)

Yet, we are called to be Holy!

God’s Desire for Israel “You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." -Exodus 19:5

God’s Desire for the Church "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." -1 Peter 2:9 -1 Peter 2:9

God’s Desire for the Church "As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'" -1 Peter 1:14-16 -1 Peter 1:14-16

God’s Desire for the Church We are to be like HIM!

How Can We Be Holy as He is Holy?

God’s Desire for the Church Eph. 1:4 "... just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him.“ 1:4,7 “…predestined us to adoption as sons through Christ Jesus to Himself" and in Him provided "redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses."

Heb. 10:19-22 - "Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."

We are made holy in Jesus Christ! We are then called to a life of holiness!

We are called to be holy 2 Cor. 7:10 - “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." Rom. 12:1 - "I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship."

1 st Peter 1:13-16 - “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

1 st Thess. 4:3-7 - “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.”

How do we remain Holy? 1 st John 1:7 - "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all sin.“1 st John 1:7 - "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all sin.“ 1:9 - "If we confess our sins He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."1:9 - "If we confess our sins He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

We must strive for holiness! It does make a difference how we live our daily lives. It does make a difference how we live our daily lives. God does take note of our sins.God does take note of our sins. He expects us to exercise self control. He expects us to exercise self control.

Holy! Holy! Holy! Is the Lord God Almighty!
