Warm UP!!!! Page 30 (SKIP PAGES) Weather symbols are used on my weather maps as shorthand for the conditions at weather observing stations.

What is weather forecasting??? Weather forecasting is a prediction of what the weather will be like in an hour, tomorrow, or next week. Weather forecasting involves a combination of computer models, observations, and a knowledge of trends and patterns. By using these methods, reasonable accurate forecasts can be made up to seven days in advance.

Brainstorm some things you recognize…

Data Checklist to predict the weather: Where are the high pressure/low pressure systems located? Where are the fronts? What types of fronts are there? What is the air pressure in your region? What are the current temperatures? What is the humidity in your area?

Weather Map Sequencing Day One And Day Two

And Day Three

And Day Four

To forecast the weather you need to know… Tip Sheet…attach on page 51!!!!!!!!!!!!

PERFORMANCE TASK: Weather Forecasting Using the materials and data you are given, forecast the rest of the day’s probable weather conditions, at 4 pm and 10 pm. Be sure to address temperature, wind speed, cloud development or dissipation, barometric (atmospheric) pressure, precipitation for each time of day. For each condition predicted at each particular time of day, state the observation, data, or fact that supports what you are predicting (justification). Your forecast and justification can be in the form of a table, graph, bullet points, paragraph or any/all of those options!

Model: How to complete the task

Model: Weather Data Current Pressure: 1013.2 mB Current Temperature: 62 ⁰ F Current Humidity: 48% Dew Point: 42 ⁰ Current Wind: ENE at 1 mile per hour
