5 Sid then mixed all of the stuff back together and put it in a glass jar.  Make a prediction.  Draw what you think Sid’s jar will look like if he doesn’t touch it for 10 minutes.

6 Evidence:  Play with the tubes for a minute. Gather evidence…  Which particles settle to the bottom first?  Which particles are always on top?  What is at the very top of the tube?  Draw the evidence in your notebook on the left side.

7 Evidence:  Now, write the densities next to each layer.  Draw the evidence in your notebook.

8 Inference:  How does your drawing of the tube compare to your drawing of Sid’s river stuff?  What inference can you make about density? Make an inference on the right side.

9 Evidence: Examine the particle sizes of sand, silt, and pebbles. Label your jar as biggest, medium, smallest

10 Inference:  What inference can you make about particle size?  Which would fall to the bottom first, large rocks or small pebbles? (Assuming that they were the same density.) Make an inference on the right side.
