4. 4 Recent Meetings The Geodetic Control subcommittee met on 30 July 2013 The topics discussed at this meeting include: NGS Ten-Year strategic plan FGDC Geodetic Control Theme New datums CORS – status and plans GAO Study update Some of the outcomes arising from this meeting include: Larry Hothem gave us a briefing on international standards activities We documented our rationale for the selection of geodetic control theme datasets Began to execute our plan to update standards documents

5. 5 Recent Developments/Projects (1 of 3) 2013 Esri Federal GIS Conference: NGS presented a session on Geodesy and National GIS. Attendees learned about new GIS tools and the new datums for the nation that are under development.

6. 6 Recent Developments/Projects (2 of 3) Dr. Neil Weston  Geodetic Control Theme Lead Juliana Blackwell  Geodetic Control Theme Champion Geopotential Datum GRAV-D update 2014 Geoid Slope Validation Survey in Iowa underway.

7. 7 Recent Developments/Projects (3 of 3) Dr. Neil Weston and Mark Eckl are alternate NOAA representatives to the INCITS L1 Technical Committee (Geographic Information Systems). INCITS L1 the Technical Advisory Group to the ISO Technical Committee 211 (Geographic Information/Geomatics). Jeff de la Beaujardiere is the primary NOAA representative to INCITS L1.

8. 8 Next Meeting January 2014 in Silver Spring, MD and via phone and Web Some of the topics to be discussed at the next meeting include: Update on the datums of the future and continued discussion on how to prepare for those datums Progress on updating standards documents

9. 9 Next Steps In the coming months, the FGCS plans to: Continue to prepare for the new geometric and geopotential datums. Execute our plan to update standards documents. Identify common objectives and find opportunities for cooperative projects and tasks related to standardization and updates to vertical datums.
