3 What we did 1.Held interviews with Year 1 students 2.Monitor all CD students’ attendance 3.Identified students with problems 4.Contacted at risk students (phone, email, personally)

4 1. Interviews with 1 st year students  May 2014  Interviewed 100 (out of 113) students from our department  Created Student Record Cards with general info about students and the advisor’s observations  Encouraged the students to seek our assistance in case of personal or school related difficulties.  Continuously urge students to attend classes, do homework, participate actively in classes, etc.  Collaborate with teaching staff to identify other at risk/special needs students and meet their needs if possible.

6 Year 2+ Students  Monitor attendance on EM  Liaise with Student Affairs staff and seminar teachers to identify at risk students and the causes of their low attendance/performance/motivation.  Contact the students (phone, private email etc.) and urge them to seek our help.  Act as interpreters for non Japanese speaking teaching staff.

7 Outcomes 1.Identified and contacted 17 students (1 st to 4 th year students) with attendance or attitude problems, either upon request from teachers or based on our own class observations. (Google Drive document) 1.Attendance (as of May 30, 2014)  Year 1 96%  Year 284%  Year 385%  Year 477%
