6  Reforming Government ◦ Gov. Corruption  cities –Political. Bosses and parties  ex. Philadelphia teachers had to pay $120 of first $141 to city gov.

7  states-special interest groups (ex. RRs) ran the state machines (p. 534 – cartoon and quote)

8  federal – special interest groups used bribes for votes in Congress (esp. the Senate – who were often put in power by corrupt state machines) – p. 534 for quote and picture

12  INTIATIVE – voters have the power to introduce legislation through petition
