2 Abstract The present study aims to explore the current practices adopted by manufacturing organizations in India. The main objective of this paper is to provide empirical evidence on top management’s awareness and understanding of the Total Quality Management and its role towards business survival and competitiveness. Questionnaire used as the main tools for information gathering.

3 Introduction Today achieving customer satisfaction is most important objective of the organizations and Total Quality Management (TQM) is the most effective approach to achieve this objective. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a widely used system in order to generate a competitive advantage. Indian companies are viewing ISO 9001 as the starting point for Total Quality Management since it requires setting up of and implementing a management system that ensures consistent products and services at a particular level of quality.

4 Methodology The scope of study is limited to the cement manufacturing industry in Northern Indian states. Organisation certified with ISO 9001 were chosen Random sampling method was applied research about TQM has been conducted through survey

9 Conclusion The survey findings indicate that Indian organizations are well aware of TQM practices. Implementation level is low than the awareness level. The important CSFs of TQM are identified and it is found that overall mean of implementation is lower than the importance perceived by the respondents. The use of Six Sigma is very less than the other quality improvement approaches There is no significant difference between quality practices being followed by followed by cement and other manufacturing organizations.
