2  Producers and Directors direct stages, television shows, videos, and motion pictures for entertainment.  Responsible for creative decisions, such as interpretation of script, choice of guests, set design, sound, special effects, and choreography.  Determine and direct the content of all Entertainment.

3  Total pay ranges from $2,500 to $8,000 for a three- to four-week run of a production.  The highest paid stage directors work on Broadway productions. They commonly earn $100,000 plus royalties(based on the number of performances) per show.  Producers and directors seldom earn benefits. However, directors who work regularly may receive typical benefits such as health insurance. Self-employed producers and directors must provide their own insurance.

4  You have to have to have the ability to make quick decisions.  You will need to be very organized to be a successful producer, and director.  Identify problems and review information. Analyze options and apply solutions.  Solve problems by bringing others together to discuss differences.  Teach others how to do something using several methods.

5  About 20 percent of producers and directors are self-employed.  Competition for producer and director jobs will be strong. The glamour of these jobs and the lack of formal entry requirements attract many people.  Employment in motion pictures and films for television is centered in Hollywood and New York City.

6  Communications and Media: Knowledge of producing, sharing, and delivering information or entertainment. This may be through written, spoken, or visual media.  Administration and Management: Knowledge of managing the operations of a business, company, or group.  Fine Arts: Knowledge of the methods and concepts needed to create or perform works of art. Areas of knowledge may include music, dance, visual arts, drama, and sculpture.

7  Helpful electives to take in high school that prepare you for this occupation include:  Communications  Dance  Drama  Film and Videotape  Photography  Stagecraft

8  It is important for producers and directors to be able to:  Stand when directing or overseeing production.  Speak clearly so listeners can understand.  Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.  Understand the speech of another person

9  Producers and Directors must select plays or scripts.  Conduct rehearsals. Direct the work of the cast and crew.  Audition and select cast members.  Coordinate program elements, such as audio, camera, and special effects.  Coordinate the work of writers, managers, and other staff.
