Glenn Lopez P0Dule Production Planning

Glenn Lopez Overview Eventually want a detailed procedure for P0Dule production Workspace layout is efficient as possible Need to interface with those responsible for individual components, and engineering Comments on omissions or unforeseen issues are welcome

2 July 2007Glenn Lopez3 PØD Assembly Space at SBU PØD Assembly Area ~60' x 35' Space has been located for PØD assembly in the SBU NSL area. -- Approximately 2400 sq ft -- 2.5 ton crane -- Strong sources OK (>> 10 mCu) ‏ -- Good access to loading dock. Dept. has agreed to our use of the space beginning in late 2007.

Glenn Lopez P0Dule Procedure Place bottom skin on table with a layer of glue on top Position frames onto skin Assemble long scintillating planks Insert pins to align with holes Spread layer of glue Repeat with short scintillating planks and cover with top skin Vacuum bag the P0Dule Remove pins Insert fibers Connect electronics Scanner Light Injection? Remove electronics Assemble SuperP0Dule

Glenn Lopez Individual Components Ideas, Concerns, Suggestions

Glenn Lopez Table Table design similar to prototype –Size, Mobility Use of three tables simultaneously Obvious location – center of workspace

Glenn Lopez Frames and Light-Tight Skin Frames – light-weight –Storage should be trivial Light-Tight Skin –Requires two people to move –Avoid kinking –Access to three sides of skin (i.e. not stored in corner) –Stored near table Cleanliness issues

Glenn Lopez Scintillating Planks Two people to carry –Access to both ends of plank Stored near table Cleanliness issues Stacking – short on bottom, long on top

Glenn Lopez Gluing Table for mixing glue Storage of tools –Rollers, brushes, glue pans and buckets, pins? Mobile carts –Will hold glue for the rollers and brushes

Glenn Lopez Vacuum System Similar to prototype system? One pump for three tables? Vacuum pump on wheels

Glenn Lopez Fiber Insertion Fibers located nearest to P0Dule insertion point Mobile Carts –Used to hold fibers and guide used to insert fibers into holes How is this done? Issue – Shielding from UV light

Glenn Lopez Electronics Connecting and removing –What is needed?

Glenn Lopez Scanner Where will it go? How big? How will it be used? Location of scanner will fix location of everything else

Glenn Lopez Summary P0Dule production procedure still not complete –Have a good idea from the prototype Unclear on fiber insertion, electronics, light- injection, scanner –Need to interface with engineering and those responsible for each component to determine what space we need
