9 Emory at Grady Financial Issues Grady provides malpractice coverage at no cost to SOM Through the Emory Medical Care Foundation (EMCF), Emory contributes an additional $28,000,000 to physician support (decreased in recent years) Aside from AR, SOM loses $10,000,000/year in uncompensated costs Delayed payments to SOM $20-40,000,000 in AR at any time

12 Grady was the heart and soul of Emory SOM from its founding in 1920. Emory Clinic began in 1953. Emory Hospital was founded in 1904 but was not a teaching hospital until the clinic developed. Now Grady has a reduced but important role for Emory, but plays an essential role in Atlanta.
