2 Chapter 11 ~ Lesson 1 God called Samuel to serve him. Hannah, a woman who was childless, prayed to God for a son. She promised to dedicate her son to God. She had a son and named him Samuel. Hannah dedicated Samuel to God. Samuel grew up with an old priest named Eli. God called to Samuel while he was sleeping and told him of all the things the Lord will do. Samuel became God’s prophet. A prophet is someone who speaks on behalf of God, defends the truth and works for justice.

3 Chapter 11 ~ Lesson 1 Samuel is consecrated to God. He is brought to Eli, who was an old priest at the shrine of Shiloh.

4 Chapter 11 ~ Lesson 1 Concept: Who was Samuel and why did God call him? Historical Writing: gives an account of an historical event or period in history Ex: The First and Second Books of Samuel Prophet: someone who speaks on behalf of God, defends the truth, and works for justice

5 Chapter 11 ~ Lesson 1 Questions: 1. Why was the situation in Israel desperate during this time? 2. Who were the Philistines? 3. What happened to the tribe of Benjamin? 4. Answer the concept question!
