1 Samuel 1:21-28

Summary Review: Hannah was wrapped in Shame and Guilt because of her barren condition and inability to meet expectations of others and self – don’t allow Shame and Guilt to stop you from coming to the Lord Hannah represents the current state of Israel – broken, barren, defeated, downhearted. Hannah was screwed up / Hannah’s family was screwed up - God works his plans and will (and calling) out of screwed up things. (1:2-8) The Lord Almighty – is the warring God of Heavenly Armies that goes before us to fight on our behalf. – call on his Name. (1:3, 11)

Summary Review: God wants to use You to fulfill his willing and calling. God prompts us through trying situations so we will make “all the days of my life” vows … and be wholeheartedly devoted to Him.(Hannah vows Samuel to the Lord for “all the days of his life” 1:11) God has a heart for the Downcast & God works through the Downcast, brokenhearted, screwed up … to show it is all about Him. – Samuel comes from Hannah, the barren, shamed, downhearted one (1:20) Out of the Dead, God brings Life, a New Song.

1 Sam 1:19b-20 Elkanah lay with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."

When God fulfills his part of the Vow, Do you fulfill your part? The Struggle to Fulfill our Part of the Vow

1 Sam 1:21-28 21 When the man Elkanah went up with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vow, 22 Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, "After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the LORD, and he will live there always." 23 "Do what seems best to you," Elkanah her husband told her. "Stay here until you have weaned him; only may the LORD make good his [d] word." So the woman stayed at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.d 24 After he was weaned, she took the boy with her, young as he was, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh. 25 When they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the boy to Eli, 26 and she said to him, "As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. 27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.
