2 MISSION STATEMENT NOTES DEFINTION Mission Statement – A statement that says what you do as a business. MISSION STATEMENT CREATION 1.Identify the winning idea of your business. 2.Identify the key measures of your business. 3.Combine your winning idea and success measures into a desired goal. EXAMPLE MISSION STATEMENT (Farm Fresh Produce) “To become the number one produce store in Main Street by selling the highest quality, freshest farm produce, from farm to customer in under 24 hours on 75% of our range and with 95% customer satisfaction.”

3 VISION STATEMENT NOTES DEFINITION Vision Statement – A statement that gives the goal of a business over the long term future. VISION STATEMENT CREATION 1.Write the mission statement first. 2.Identify what your business and your customers value most about what you do. 3.Combine your mission and your values until you have the right vision statement. EXAMPLE VISION STATEMENT (Farm Fresh Produce) “We help the families of Main Town live happier and healthier lives by providing the freshest, tastiest, and most nutritious local produce. From local farms to your table in under 24 hours.”

4 S.W.O.T. NOTES Definition S.W.O.T. – a study undertaken by an business to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats. S.W.O.T. Creation 1.Strengths – What you do well, what you have expertise in, and what your best personal qualities are. 2.Weaknesses –What you don’t do so well, and what keeps you from accomplishing your goals and achieving your full potential. 3.Opportunities – Taking advantage of the conditions that exist within our environment. 4.Threats – Uncontrollable conditions in your environment that come up from time to time, and they can hurt your chances for success. EXAMPLE S.W.O.T. ANALYSIS Strength – Ability to draw well to design a company logo. Weakness – Poor short term memory of where I put things at. Opportunities – An academic or athletic scholarship at a college or university. Threats – A competitor business opens up across the street from your business.
