TE-CRG Interfaces Fair S-FRS magnets - CERN cryogenics 11.06.15 Control interface CERN-GSI for B.180 cryogenics Control interface CERN-GSI for B.180 cryogenics V. Inglese, M. Pezzetti, B. D’Hulster

TE-CRG Interfaces Fair S-FRS magnets - CERN cryogenics 11.06.15 Global cryogenic control architecture GSI equipment

TE-CRG Interfaces Fair S-FRS magnets - CERN cryogenics 11.06.15 Control interface with GSI GSI racks for magnet instrumentation must use a Profibus DP interface with the CERN cryogenic control system o All signals shall be conditioned and calibrated, and exchanged with CERN in engineering units o These signals will be stored through CERN’s archiving facilities (TIMBER) by means of filters set according to CERN policies o Suitable naming complying with CERN standards shall be used for signal tags => OK, details of Profibus exchange to be defined (see dedicated slide). => Possibility of Ethernet exchange For each test station, the following items are reserved for GSI: o 2 CERN standard racks => OK o 5 kW / 400VAC (3.5 kW for current leads electrical heaters, 1.5 kW for remaining equipment) => To be validated by GSI o UPS & Ethernet => UPS only for QPS, so not in cryogenic racks => Ethernet required, how many plugs? in which racks? Slide presented on 12 th May 2015

TE-CRG Interfaces Fair S-FRS magnets - CERN cryogenics 11.06.15 Instrumentation and cabling No electrical connections exchange from GSI magnet control system to cryogenic control system are foreseen for hardware safety chains and interlocks GSI Cable list to be revised (voltage taps to QPS) Who provides cables and connectors? If GSI => CERN safety approval required If CERN => Agreement between CERN specialists (EN/EL) and GSI needed + connectors and pinning to be defined by GSI Cable destination on magnet to be specified by GSI (for cable trays preparation and installation) Magnet current leads : Electrical heaters are auto-regulating, no enable signal foreseen in cryogenic PLC Flow control valves: who is controlling what? So far PV valve to cryogenic system, all the rest to magnet control system (to be clarified).

TE-CRG Interfaces Fair S-FRS magnets - CERN cryogenics 11.06.15 Communication scenario definition Can we have the Magnet Control System (MCS) architecture foreseen by GSI? Profibus exchange to be defined between Cryo Control System (CCS) and MCS. Possibility of Ethernet exchange (SEND & RECEIVE SIEMENS function). Siemens CPU used for CCS. In any case a communication table has to be defined by GSI for the exchange (list of signals with name, unit, range,…).
