2 Pre-Write Analyze the prompt FIRST!!
Set-up your categories and thesis. You can use SPICE themes as your categories and build it out from there. Then analyze documents using SOAPSTone or ACAPS (Author, Context, Audience, Purpose, Subject) to provide needed material for your essay.

Three Parts to a Thesis: Answer the prompt. Provide PLACE & TIME. Categories of analysis

4 Thesis Steps: Analyze responses to the spread of influenza in the early twentieth century.
1. Step 1:Re-statement Ex: The responses to the global spread of flu in the early 20th century were segregation, research, and information. 2. Step 2: Passive Voice Drop the term “were” and come up with your own verb. Ex. Segregation, research and information systems addressed the global spread of flu in the early 20th century. 3. Step 3: Active Voice Make sure your points are linked together to form a relationship. Ex. As the flu spread across the globe in the early 20th century, government attempted to inform their population about it virulence, but has to turn to segregation to stop the spread, giving them the time necessary for research to develop a “cure.”

6 Grouping Example: Documents 6, 7, and 9 present the idea of how the Green Revolution led to changes in cultural lifestyles.

7 POV In the simplest of terms, “Point of View” or “Bias” is prejudice or influence “Why” author said what he/she said “Why” includes factors that influenced author’s position Keys to these factors found: In the documents themselves (information in the box) Through knowledge of author or of what is being said

8 Missing vOICE/ Additional vOICE
The missing voice/ additional voice comes from explaining why you want that voice, not that you mentioned it. This can be done in one of your CM pieces in the body paragraphs.

12 Keys to success-writing a dbq
1.Skip 4-5 line between every paragraph. It allows the reader to see your paragraph breaks. It gives the reader white space, and makes it more enjoyable to read. In addition, you may remember they want to add something, this way there is no lines or asterisks, because as readers they are busting through papers and won’t follow your arrow.
