LEGEND “Kurt Cobain was the most important artist of the Nineties even though he lived for less than half of the decade.” –Rolling Stone

BIO Kurt Cobain was born in Aberdeen; Washington on February 20, 1967 Cobains ancestry included Irish, English, Scottish, and German. His mother was a waitress, and father an automotive mechanic.

NIRVANA He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for the alternative rock band, Nirvana. Cobain and Krist Novoselic formed the band in 1985.

NEVERMIND ALBUM Nevermind was the bands major label debut; it was a major success and launched the band into the mainstream. Released on September 23, 1991 I was merely 2 months old when this album released. Under the “Grunge” and “Alternative Rock” genres, today it would be and is classified just as “Rock” (iTunes). The album lasts a total of forty-two minutes and thirty-eight seconds. This album featured 13 records, opening with the smash hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Other singles from the album include “Come As You Are”, “Lithium”, and “In Bloom”.

BLEACH ALBUM Although Nevermind was the bands first mainstream album, Bleach (1989) was their first album. This album has been certified “Diamond”, meaning that it has sold over 10 million copies. It has also gone ahead to sell over 30 million copies worldwide. This album is praised for bringing the “alternative” and “Grunge” music genres to the mainstream.

GENERATION X. Nirvana is considered the "flagship band of Generation X". “Generation X” is commonly known as the generation born after the World War II baby boom. Birth dates of “Generation X” range from the 1960's to early 1980's. Not only the front man of the band, Cobain was also viewed as the spokesperson for Generation X by the media. “All the extra attention really discomforted Cobain, to the point that he even thought the bands musical message, was misinterpreted by the public” (Wikipedia.com).

FAMILY A multi-talented individual, he was the lead vocalist for his own band and viewed as the spokesperson of a whole generation. Also a husband and father of one child, Frances Bean Cobain. Who he fathered along with Courtney Love, Frances was born on August 18, 1992. Both Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love struggled with drug addiction. It is also known that “The two bounded through drug use”.

DEATH I was not shocked to find that Kurt Cobain is no longer living. What did surprise me is the cause of his death, suicide. After checking into a Los Angeles rehab center for drug use, he climbed a fence and left the rehab center. He was missing ever since, his wife even hired a private investigator to locate him. His body was found in his Seattle home, he died of a self-inflicted shoot gun blow to his head. High amounts of heroin and diazepam, where later found in his body.
