3 Producer-Archive Interface Abstract Methodology Standard Document progression stopped last November by CESG minority view CESG minority view: should be re-tracked as Best Current Practice CESG majority and MOIMS view: should be immediately published as Blue Book and submitted to ISO review CMC expected to address and decide issue next week (17 May)

4 Submission Information Package No progression for last 6 months due to failure to get precurser PAIMAS standard progressed Discussion this week assumed PAIMAS would be progressed as Blue Book by CMC SIP actions re-instated Key updated actions and dates: Proposal for structure of SIP White Book 2004-10-02 Prototype of SIP on top of IPR XML Packaging 2005-03-15

5 Related Activities Life Sciences BOF Proposal Large number of Space Agencies working on International Space Station (ISS) Life Sciences and Microgravity (NASA Code U) Community has need for standards for data re-use and archiving Looking for a European partner Draft charter prepared Asked for CCSDS web site advertisement 6 moths ago CCSDS lack of support for advertising BOF’s has stopped progress for 6 months An alternate standards organization will soon be contacted if support does not materialize quickly

6 Related Activities-2 Archive Certification Task Force Report by David Giaretta/BNSC Representatives from wide variety of organizations Archives, Libraries, Space Agency data centers, others Developing a process by which archives can be certified Draft framework being assessed by task force members in context of their individual archives/data centers/libraries Next version will likely be re-organized and then may be appropriate for wider review Task Force eventually expects to petition CCSDS for CCSDS/ISO review No date currently set

8 Resolution for May 2004 (updated from November 2003) The CMC agrees to publish the Producer-Archive Interface Methodology Abstract Standard as a “CCSDS Standard” (Blue Book) Implementations are not appropriate Request parallel ISO review

9 Action for CMC consideration Clarify procedures dealing with the French version of OAIS (and other) documents Desire to have emerging French translation of OAIS Blue Book obtain ISO approval Can it leave out a non-normative part of the document and still be accepted? Can it make updates reflecting current references? Desire to have it added as a CCSDS web site document
