1 Phoenix Convention Center Phoenix, Arizona HVAC Technologies Track 3: Energy Technologies August 12, 2015

2 Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Learning Outcomes By attending this session, attendees will: Learn about the various typical HVAC equipment designs that are used for DOAS and Relative Humidity Control. Discuss the pros and cons of the typical systems in new construction and retrofit applications. Discover why some system designs can contribute to the "Low Delta T Syndrome". Learn about a "High Efficiency Dehumidification System" or "HEDS" currently involved in the ESTCP process that has the potential to address most, if not all, of the problems associated with the other systems, while delivering a CHW system TD in excess of 20°F. Distinguish between the energy efficiency of unitary HVAC equipment versus central chilled water plants, and typical efficiency levels of each. Question the current approach to and methods of estimating actual installed energy efficiency of operating equipment, and the effects of deferred maintenance, of unitary HVAC equipment over time. Identify how unitary HVAC controllers that use operating IEER as a performance & control metric minimize energy consumption. State inefficiencies in current unitary HVAC equipment design, and the corresponding approach to mitigate energy waste and improve performance. Understand why real world maintenance of unitary HVAC equipment is less than ideal, and what can be done to help ensure long term performance. 2

3 Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade FEMP is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education & Training and has awarded 0.2 CEUs (60 Min = 0.1 CEUs, 90 Min = 0.2 CEUs) for this session. To earn CEUs and a certificate of completion, participants must: – attend the session – complete a short assessment (3-5 questions) and brief evaluation by logging on to: http://www.wbdg.org/education/energyexchange2015.php Note: participants must register once with the National Institute of Building Sciences’ Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG.org) to complete the requirements and obtain their certificate. 3 Obtaining CEUs and Certificates
