2 Types of Sentences Review Define an independent clause – stands alone as a sentence; expresses a complete thought Define a subordinate clause – does not express a complete thought; cannot stand alone as a sentence. Define a simple sentence – contains one independent clause and NO subordinate clause Define a compound sentence – contains two or more independent clauses and NO subordinate clauses Define a complex sentence – contains one independent clause and at least one subordinate clause Define a compound-complex sentence – contains two or more independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause.

9 Sentence Scrambler Directions: Choose 2-4 players Place the player pieces on START. Player with next b-day goes first. Roll the die or spinner to see which type of sentence you must identify. Mover your piece to the next square that has that type of sentence you rolled. Check the answer key for accuracy. If you incorrectly identified a sentence, you must return to your previous spot. After square 19, the first person to roll “simple” and read FINISH wins.
