MEDIA INFLUENCES… THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDIA. MEDIA CAN HAVE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE INFLUENCES, DEPENDING UPON HOW THEY ARE USED.

OTHER TYPES OF MEDIA: TELEVISION MOVIES COMPUTER INTERNET RADIO VIDEO GAMES MAGAZINES CELL PHONES WAIT! CELL PHONES??!!

CELL PHONES CAN BE RISKY IF USED IRRESPONSIBLY: Sexual messages or photos sent by cell phone SEXTING Sexting is a felony crime because it is “distribution of child pornography” because you are not adults. This is a federal crime and could lead to jail time and being labeled as sex offenders. The law requires sex offenders to register in the county in which they live. If someone asks you to send a sexual picture or message, say NO. Don’t risk your future with an irresponsible choice like sexting.

MEDIA INFLUENCE (CONT’D) Do you think that using attractive models or famous people influence people to purchase a product? If so, why? Where else do we see sexual influences used besides magazine advertisements? How can the internet be dangerous? What can you do to stay safe?

GOAL SETTING What are Risky Behaviors? These are things people choose to do that may harm them and affect their future goals. Ex: drugs, fighting, sex, etc. What is a goal? A goal is something that we want enough that we make an effort to reach it. Ex: good grades, making a team. 10 GOALS: WE SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST ONE SHORT TERM & LONG TERM GOAL 1.Ex: “I am going to try my very best to bring all of my grades up this semester.” 2. Ex: “I want to take a babysitting class so I can start babysitting when I’m 13 and make my own money.”
