8 Fort Ticonderoga Knox arrived at Fort Ticonderoga on December 5, and immediately set about identifying the equipment to take. He selected 59 artillery pieces including cannons ranging in size from four to twenty-four pounders, mortars, and howitzers. He estimated the total weight to be transported at 120,000 pounds (about 60 tons. The largest pieces, the twenty-four pounders were 11 feet long and estimated to weigh over 5,000 pounds. It took 56 days, 80 oxen, and 40 sleds to go the 286 miles to Boston.
