1.6 Objective: Classify Polygons

Lingo Polygon: Closed 2 dimensional figure formed by three or more line segments. Each segment connects to exactly two other segments. Side of a Polygon: Each segment that forms a polygon Vertex of a Polygon: The common endpoint of two sides

Concave and Convex Convex: if no line that contains a side of the polygon contains a point in the interior of the polygon Concave: not convex, seems to “cave” in Examples pg. 42

Polygon or Not a Polygon

Naming Polygons (pg. 43)

Lingo Equilateral: All sides are congruent Equiangular: All angles in the interior of a polygon are congruent Regular Polygon: Both Equilateral and Equiangular.

Insert Example 2 and GP

Insert Example 3 and GP 3

Extra Example 3

Sketches Draw two nonexamples of a polygon. Draw two examples of a concave polygon. Draw two examples of a convex polygon. What does it mean for a polygon to be equiangular? –To be equilateral? –To be regular? Question 29- we’ll look at together

Homework Page 45-47 1, 3 – 28, 30, 32, 39, 40 1, 3 – 28, 30, 32, 39, 40 Bonus: 31, 42 Bonus: 31, 42
