In a standard 500 ml bottle of coke there is 44g of ‘free sugar’ which is equivalent to 11 teaspoons. ‘Free sugar’ is sugar that is added to a product either by the manufacturer or the consumer themselves. WHO (World Health Organization) strongly recommends that adults daily intake of sugar is no more than 10% (50g/12 tsp) of total energy intake and actually further recommends an intake of 5% (25g/6 tsp).
