 Starter: Make a list of renewable resources (RR)  Ext: For each RR, explain what makes them renewable. L.O: To describe why humans need to manage renewable resources, and explain ways this is done.

Materials:  30 fish  Tally sheet Rules:  You have 10 days to catch as many fish as you can. The money you make from these fish will need to support your family for the next month. Each fish nets $2.  Each day, you'll choose whether you want to take none, one, two, or three fish for the day. There are four other fisher folk also trying to catch as many fish as they can. At the end of each day, record totals on the tally sheet.

Constraints:  The lake in which you are fishing can only support 30 fish (that is the carrying capacity of the lake). Every night, the fish that remain after a day of fishing will reproduce at a rate of 25% (for the purpose of this game, we round to the nearest whole number). However, the total number of fish can't exceed 30. For instance, if there are 12 fish, they will multiply to 15 overnight. If there are 29, they will multiply to 30 (remember 30 is the carrying capacity).  Ready to play? Remember: the object of the game is to have as many fish as possible at the end of the game.

1. What happened in the game? 2. What happened to the Lake? 3. How did you feel at the end? 4. How did your village perform in the game? 5. What do you think the objective of the game was? 6. Is this a realistic game? Give an example.

 What does ‘Sustainable Management’ mean?  To manage the use of a resource for the needs of today, whilst providing for the needs of the future.  How could this have been done:  In the game?  In real life?  What will prevent people from managing our resources? Why?

 Where are we on our progress line?  What questions do we have? I fully understand the LO I’m not really sure what the LO is about

 Find a news article about sustainable management of fishing, and write a small review of this article: 1. What is the article’s main point? 2. Is the article showing bias? (Favoring one side or the other) 3. Where is the world is the article from?
