Topics Remote Access to Software Basemaps Use of API Code Cross Curriculum Usage Institutional Usage Future Plans 2

The Ability to Utilize ArcGIS Across the Web Requirements ▫ Little to no user installation ▫ Available at any location ▫ Ability to utilize basemaps ▫ Ability to utilize data contained within the Firewall ▫ Personal storage of files and ability to resume suspended session ▫ Inexpensive 3

Solution ▫ JCTC Professional IT staff ▫ No software to install, works on IE, may need to load an ActiveX controller ▫ Full functional version of software ArcGIS 10 ▫ Patch single copy as updates needed ▫ Other software also loaded on the server ▫ Useful for all faculty and students not just virtual learners, ability to continue work after workshops ▫ Ability to access personal data stored on local computer ▫ Ability to access internet basemaps and data stored within the Firewall 4

Remote Application Server – JCTC Solution Terminal Server running on Server 2008 as a Web application. 6

Clipboard available as are local drives 7

Security and License Students must login into the server Students must login into the software Can assign specific students to specific software Software hits license manager Inside the college firewall 8

Base Maps Using an ArcGis Server base map – direct connect within ArcGIS Using compressed data – from html and Sharepoint sites Using data from mass storage array – direct connect to data include geodatabases, data is moved to the student location using ArcCatalog Connection to online base maps such as Esri Online 9

Services 10 Note two Services are loaded both from ArcGIS Servers
