9  As Americans moved Westward Indians got pushed onto reservations.  What do you think is wrong with this?

10 Reservation Life: Bad things about it  Usually received bad land (Oklahoma).  Indians had little experience farming.  Many kids were placed in boarding schools. They had to wear Anglo clothes, cut their hair & speak English.  If the gov’t didn’t provide food, Indians often faced starvation.

11 Western Frontier  Opportunities for African-Americans arose on the frontier.

12 Buffalo Soldiers Black soldiers (many were ex- slaves) that served on the frontier. The name ‘buffalo soldier’ given by the Indians. Served in the 9 th & 10 th Cavalry& the 24 th & 25 th Infantry.
