5 Theme The theme is independence and patience and do something with your life. In this book Amos becomes a free man but, has to wait a long time for that to happen. Examples: When Amos says to someone “don’t worry I will come back.” That means be patient and wait for your freedom. Another example: When a man said to Amos “I will try to free you.” That is another example of being patient and waiting for your freedom Also Amos did something with his life after he was free

6 Summary The book “Amos Fortune” is about a man who is in Africa but then is kidnapped and sent to be a slave in New England. He does not know much English but his first owners (the Copeland) taught him English and treated him very well. But he had to leave because the Copeland’s did not have a lot of money anymore. He was sold to his new owner Ichabod Richardson who promised Amos his freedom for years of hard work. After he gained his freedom he bought other slaves and freed them. He ended up marrying a lady named Viollett and adopting (buying) a daughter. He still worked, but then retired, and in 1802 he and Viollett died.
