7. Isaiah 13  13:1-5 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Babylon. He calls his mighty armies together to do battle and to destroy the land.  13:6-16 The coming judgment is “the day of the Lord”. This day is a day of divine punishment and wrath toward the sinners, the wicked, and the proud of the world. Men, women, and infants are hurt and homes are ransacked. 7

8. Isaiah 13  13:17-22 The Lord uses the Medes to destroy Babylon. They are fierce and cruel. The glory, beauty, and pride of Babylon is taken away. Babylon is no long inhabited. It becomes a waste place for wild animals. 8

9. Isaiah 14  14:1-3 When Babylon falls, the Lord has compassion on his people Israel and allows them to possess their land, to rule over their oppressors, and to have rest from their sorrow.  14:4-23 The king of Babylon who ruled the nations in anger is brought low and to the grave. He is fallen. He is proud and cruel, but he is brought to the grave. He and his descendents are removed for ever. Babylon is laid waste. 9

10. Isaiah 14  14:24-27 What the Lord purposes against the nation of Assyria (see 10:24-27) and all other nations (like Babylon) stands. The Lord purposes it and no one can annul it.  14:28-31 In the year that Ahaz died (716 B.C.), the Lord pronounces judgment upon Philistia. Philistia is slain by a nation from the north.  14:32 Zion is a refuge to the Lord’s people. 10

17. Isaiah 15  15:1-9 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Moab. The people of Moab weep after their land is laid waste and brought to naught. The land of Moab is made desolate and the people cry and wail because of the bloodshed. 17

18. Isaiah 16  16:1-5 The outcasts of Moab are counseled to bring a sacrifice to Jerusalem and take refuge there. A promise is given of one who will sit on David’s throne in truth.  16:6-12 The once proud, arrogant, wrathful, and boastful people of Moab now wail over her destruction. Isaiah also weeps over Moab. When Moab comes to worship its idols, her prayers do not prevail. 18

27. Isaiah 21  21:1-9 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Babylon – the wilderness of the sea (see v. 9). He uses the Medes to do it (see 13:17). Isaiah is pained and dismayed concerning this coming judgment. The watchman is set up. He sees the coming army and announces, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon.”  21:10 The fall of Babylon is compared to a threshing floor that is trodden down. 27

28. Isaiah 21  21:11-12 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Duman (Edom).  21:13-16 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Arabia. Grievous war comes to this people. Within one year her glory fails. 28

29. Isaiah 22  22:1-9 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Judah. The people of Jerusalem are joyous but they are led away captive. Isaiah weeps over the coming judgment. Jerusalem is destroyed and broken down.  22:12-14 The people of Judah should weep over this judgment, but all they do is party.  22:15-25 Shebna is self-serving and proud. He is replaced by the Lord’s servant, Eliakim. 29

30. Isaiah 23  23:1-7 The Lord pronounces judgment upon Tyre. This city is a coastal city and “the market of the nations”. The nations she trades with are pained at her destruction.  23:8-12 The Lord is the one who purposes judgment against the proud and joyous Tyre.  23:13-18 The city of Tyre is laid waste by the Babylonians for 70 years. After 70 years, Tyre returns to selling her merchandise. 30

33. Isaiah 24  24:1-6 The Lord pronounces judgment upon the earth and its inhabitants. All classes of people are affected by the Lord’s judgment. The inhabitants of the earth are languished, polluted, devoured, and burned because they transgress, violate, and break God’s law.  24:7-12 When the inhabitants are judged, their joy and laughter ceases and they cry. 33

34. Isaiah 24  24:13-16 A few people lift up their voice to praise and glorify the Lord’s majesty. Isaiah is sorrowful over the treacherous people of the earth who are judged.  24:17-20 The inhabitants of the earth are in fear and they flee. The people are broken and stagger like a drunk man. They fall because they have transgressed God’s law. 34

35. Isaiah 24  24:21-23 The Lord punishes the proud ones and the kings of the earth. He gathers them together and shuts them up as prisoners. The Lord reigns from mount Zion and Jerusalem. 35

36. Isaiah 25  25:1-5 Isaiah praises the name of the Lord because for his wonderful acts and counsels in faithfulness and truth. The Lord makes a city a heap, he is a refuge to the poor and needy, and he brings down the terrible ones.  25:6-12 The Lord blesses his people in his mountain. He makes them happy, he removes all the covers, and he takes away death, tears, and reproach. Proud Moab will also be brought down. Those who wait on the Lord are saved. 36

39. Isaiah 26  26:1-7 A song is sung in the land of Judah. The city is for the saved, the righteous, and the faithful. They trust in the Lord their everlasting rock. The Lord brings down the proud and raises up the poor and the needy. The just ones walk uprightly.  26:8-10 The righteous wait for, desire, and earnestly seek the Lord. In contrast, the wicked do not learn righteousness or behold the Lord’s majesty. 39

40. Isaiah 26  26:11-15 The Lord puts to shame the wicked, but he ordains peace for the righteous. Other nations (with their idols) rule over Israel, but the Lord destroys them. The Lord increases and enlarges the nation of Israel.  26:16-19 The righteous pray to the Lord when they experience trouble and chastening from their enemies. Israel returning to her land is compared to the dead rising from the dust. 40

41. Isaiah 26  26:20-21 The righteous are counseled to hide in their chambers for awhile until the Lord’s indignation passes. The Lord comes to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. 41

42. Isaiah 27  27:1 Leviathan, the swift and crooked serpent is punished and slain by the Lord.  27:2-6 The Lord protects and cares for his vineyard (his people). In days to come, Jacob and Israel will fill the face of the earth with fruit. 42

43. Isaiah 27  27:7-11 The Lord smites his people. By the Lord’s judgment, the people’s sins are forgiven, the idols are beaten down, and the city is forsaken. The Lord shows no compassion because his people are without understanding.  27:12-13 In days to come, the Lord gathers the children of Israel together. Those who are ready to perish and the outcasts come together to worship the Lord at Jerusalem. 43
